Programs
Friendships are an essential part of life; they provide companionship, emotional support and foster self-esteem and well-being. The goal of our social groups is to increase social skills, physical activity, community integration, develop friendships and increase overall quality of life in adults with autism, down syndrome, intellectual exceptionalities, and other neurodiversities. Having a peer group offers a level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. Participants gain meaningful connections with their peers, confidence, and share experiences, interests, and activities that others enjoy. Participants also learn independence through skills taught in community outings. Activities include coffee get togethers, happy hours, karaoke nights, dancing, hiking, walking, bowling, movies, and more!
This isn't your average social group for individuals with exceptionalities! Groups are IN society and activities are typical adult outings. Individuals are treated as adults and groups are facilitated to allow for typical adult interactions.
With an aim to empower people with intellectual exceptionalities and provide opportunities for physical activity in the great outdoors, we offer facilitated group hikes in beautiful Arizona. A recent study found that nearly half of adults with exceptionalities are physically inactive putting their health in serious jeopardy. This program is designed to provide challenging physical activity encouraging wellness while the participants develop self-confidence and personal growth.
A Whole New World offers a scholarship program that allows individuals in financial hardship to participate in our programs. Contact us to find out more!
Future Programs
A Whole New World will offer trips throughout the state. Each trip will have a variety of activities, many of which will be challenging, in order to foster self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment. Each trip will be designed to accommodate the unique needs of the participants. Traveling provides an environment for a highly effective learning program and allows individuals with exceptionalities to pursue new horizons.
A Whole New World plans to build a regenerative farm with organic practices. Our goal is to keep it local, improving access to fresh food grown without chemicals. Our farm will provide jobs for adults with intellectual and developmental exceptionalities (IDD); jobs that allow for individuals to reach their fullest potential. Tasks on our farm will provide meaning and also challenge, so individuals with IDD continue to grow while finding purpose. The Farm will create many connections in the community-- a true integration.
